Alternative Treatment for Thyroid Disease

Alternative Treatment for Thyroid Disease

There are natural prescriptions that the FDA has approved for some thyroid sufferers. They are porcine in nature and are regulated to be safe and to maintain accurate dosages. They are made from the dried thyroid of pigs and can be extremely effective. If you are looking for a more holistic approach, as through whole foods and herbs, these medications aren't viewed as natural.

Change Your Diet
That morning cup of coffee is going to have to be decaffeinated and absolutely no sugar. You also have to reduce your carbohydrate intake, get rid of potatoes, rice, breads and pastas. Enjoy vegetables that aren't full of carbohydrates as much as you wish, but have a wide selection so you don't overeat anything that may have too much of any one nutrient. Soy is not a good alternative, so try to stay away from those products as well as they can disrupt your other hormones. Eat healthy fats such as those found in cheese, olive oil, nuts and fish. You have to make sure also that your other micro nutrients such as vitamin D, zinc and iron are well within acceptable levels. Be careful with iodine, which can actually make things worse, particularly if you have Hashimoto's.

Keep Stress Minimal
When you’re really stressed your body to release adrenaline and cortisol, and this has a negative impact on the immune system, and can make you feel anxious and “fried.”

Keep Your Doctor Informed
It is imperative that you keep your doctor well informed of options that you are trying, including dosage, no matter which option you choose to treat your thyroid disease, and make appointments to verify whether or not it is actually working for you through further testing. Not doing so can actually result in further trouble with not only your thyroid but other organs as well.
